Frequently asked questions about Menumiru. 1. What is Menumiru? A service that helps you discover restaurants across Japan and read their menus in your own language, with a scan-and-translate feature, an AI assistant, and personalized recommendations. 2. Is Menumiru free? Yes. Browsing, search, menu scanning, the AI assistant and recommendations are free. A Partner account for restaurant owners is also completely free. 3. Do I need an account? You can browse and do a basic keyword search without signing in. To use the AI assistant, scan menus, save collections and get personalized recommendations, you need to sign in. 4. How do I scan a menu? Open Scan a Menu, add up to 10 clear photos of the menu from your camera or gallery, and tap Recognize. In about half a minute you get a digital menu with each dish translated and described. 5. What languages does it translate into? Menus are translated into your chosen language. You set your menu translation language in Settings under Languages. 6. Why do some dishes have a star? A star marks a dish that is personalized for you — one predicted to match your tastes based on your food preferences. 7. Why do some dishes have a warning icon? A warning flags a dish you may want to avoid based on the dietary restrictions and allergies you set in your food preferences. 8. How do I get better recommendations? Set your food preferences in Settings — what you like, what you dislike, and any allergies. You can type them or refine them by chatting with the AI assistant. The more it knows, the better the picks. 9. What can the AI assistant do? It recommends restaurants and dishes, finds places by cuisine or atmosphere, answers questions about dishes, ingredients and allergens, suggests nearby spots, and helps you scan menus — all in a natural conversation. 10. What is the difference between simple search and smart search? Simple search matches restaurant names and neighborhoods and is available to everyone. Smart search, for signed-in users, lets you describe what you want in plain words through the AI assistant and gives wider, personalized results. 11. What is the Show to waiter feature? On a dish, it flips the card to the dish's original local-language name and a short phrase meaning I would like to order, so you can show your phone to staff and order easily. 12. What are collections? Curated lists of restaurants. You can browse public collections and create your own personal ones. Restaurants you like are also gathered automatically into a Likes collection. 13. How do I save a restaurant I like? Tap the like (heart) on a restaurant to add it to your Likes collection, or add it to any of your own collections from the restaurant's page. 14. What are events? Local food events, mostly food festivals around Japan. You can browse and filter them by city and status, view details, see them on a map, and add them to your calendar. 15. What is the difference between blog and guides? Blog posts are articles like news, tips and food writing; guides are how-to and explainer content. They share the same reading experience and live under one Guides hub. 16. Are scanned menus always accurate? Menus scanned by users may contain small inaccuracies and are labeled as scanned by a user. Menus published by a restaurant partner are official. 17. How do I become a partner? Partner access starts from an invitation. Open your invitation link, tap Get Started, sign in or create an account, and complete a short business setup form. Partner questions go to [email protected]. 18. What can a restaurant partner do? Claim their restaurant, manage its profile and photos, build and edit a digital menu (including marking items sold out), get automatic translation and priority placement, and generate a table QR code for guests. 19. How do guests open a restaurant's menu? By visiting the restaurant's page in Menumiru, or by scanning the Menu QR code that the partner prints and places on the table. 20. How do I get help or report a problem? Open the Help section for help articles, or email [email protected] for any question or problem. Restaurant owners can use [email protected].
