How to scan (recognize) a menu
How to scan a physical menu: add up to 10 clear photos from camera or gallery, tap Recognize, and get a translated, described, personalized digital menu in about 30 seconds.
Scan a Menu turns a physical paper menu into a digital menu that is translated, described, and personalized to your tastes. Any signed-in user can do it. The feature is also called Scan Menu or Recognize. How to scan a menu, step by step: 1. Open Scan a Menu — for example the plus button on your Menus list, or the prompt to scan your first menu. On phones the camera opens automatically; on desktop a file picker opens. 2. Add menu photos — take a photo with the Camera or pick from your Gallery or files. On desktop you can also drag photos onto the drop area. 3. Add up to 10 photos of the menu, which is useful for multi-page or large menus. A counter shows how many you have added. You can remove a photo or add more before continuing. 4. Tap Recognize to start. 5. Menumiru analyzes the photos and shows progress (analyzing the menu, detecting dishes, translating names, refining descriptions, matching items). It usually takes about half a minute. 6. When it finishes, your menu opens with each dish translated, described, and where possible matched to the restaurant. Tips for best results: - Use clear photos of a printed or physical menu, taken with the camera or chosen from the gallery. Image files only. - If your photo includes location data, or if you started the scan from a specific restaurant's page, Menumiru can automatically associate the menu with that restaurant. - If it cannot read the photos, it shows a recognition error — try clearer or better-lit photos. Note on accuracy: menus scanned by users (rather than uploaded by the restaurant owner) may contain small inaccuracies, and Menumiru labels them as scanned by a user.
