# Student Visa: Work Permits, Business Restrictions, and Path to a Business Visa

Work permission for part-time employment (資格外活動許可, the blanket/comprehensive permit, ① 包括許可) grants a limit of 28 hours per week (more during school vacations); it is often stamped automatically at the airport upon entry. A student visa holder may run a sole proprietorship in parallel within these 28 hours. A student visa does not allow official hiring of employees or serving as a salaried company director, but a student can register a company and file for a change of status. See: Student Visa Work Permits and Business Restrictions. See: Student Visa Strategy, Thresholds, and Dependent Sponsorship.
