# Trademark Search, Pension/Social Insurance and Government Statistics

j-platpat is the official government trademark search service, used to check whether a desired trademark is already registered before filing an application; a private trademark firm is also listed as an option for handling a full trademark registration on a client's behalf. On the pension side, the pension fund's website explains how employers handle pension and insurance procedures electronically through the e-Gov system, and provides the form used to request a certificate confirming pension contributions have been paid; a separate e-Gov help page lists which characters are allowed or forbidden when filling in online government forms, useful when an online application throws an input error. Finally, two statistics resources — a government dashboard with prefecture-level economic and business data, and JETRO's regional reports on industrial sectors — help back up a business plan with numbers when applying for a visa or a grant, or when choosing which region or industry to focus on.
